Make Belief Time Bandit

By Brian Colon

What we view as important is what we become, it’s never a matter of time it’s always a matter of priority. We find time to do things that have very little value, when it’s time to do hard meaningful work we blame time. Figure out what is a priority and devote your time and energy to those areas of productivity.

There is no time bandit stealing your time, we are all given 24 hours each day, it is one of the very few equalizers in society. Success and failure start with priorities, time is just a tool that is giving to us at birth. Make a list check it twice, time knows who have been naughty or nice.

The one question we all needed to ask ourselves, what is stealing our time and is this a priority or has someone else made you work and spend your time on their priority’s. Make sure you get your priorities in order, time is limited on this earth, but there is no such thing as a time bandit.

Small Wins (The Snowball Effect)

By Brian Colon

Hitting the homerun does not mean you will win the game. The small win (Keystone Moments) is how you build momentum to hit the ball out the park. The first goal is to get on base, make contact with the ball, and hit a single. Work on your swing and the power will come.

The same concept works in the business world, stop looking for the million dollar deal work on your craft and gain strength as you go. Small victories are just like snowballs, that one ball of snow just gets bigger and bigger and before you know it, you got yourself a snowman.

We have gotten away from celebrating keystone moments in our lives, start small end big. In sports and the real world, the higher you climb the ladder, the more you are forced to focus on the small things. When you take time to improve the small things, you start to see the value of a small win.

Yes or No Never Maybe

By Brian Colon

If you want to be in a situation where you can live an extraordinary life and have more control over the outcome of most situations that has your name on it, learn the power of no and yes.

We are asked to make tough decisions on a daily basis, do your research think it over and force yourself to answer with yes or no answers. We find ourselves using language like maybe to cover up the reality that we just don’t have any interest in the proposal someone has just approached us with.

Telling someone maybe is like saying no with a question mark. Like my four year old daughter tells me all the time, I don’t like maybe. It’s ok to say yes or no, why play games get straight to the point it will save us all a lot of time and energy in the long run. Get to a point where it is ok to say yes or no without feeling  guilty for not softening up the person by using the most dreaded word known to man…. maybe

Obstacles as Opportunities

By Brian Colon

Skillful execution starts with having a vision that will move beyond obstacles and see them as opportunity. You must have the ability to solve problems as you go. Persistence forces you to look for solutions and take the most intelligent direction so you can meet your overall goals.

Opportunities can determine the outcome of someone’s life, which is why we must have an eye to separate opportunity from a good idea with no substance. Sincere effort, insight and confidence can turn any situation upside down and allow you to see opportunities in the midst of failure.

In sports and life, opportunity knocks like a loud wind burst, more often it arrives like a burglary and disappears before you realize it was there (Elyse Sommer) Take full advantage of all the opportunities that life has to offer, it might be as simple as seeing Obstacles as Opportunities.

Quarterback of a Different Team

Audio - Randall Cunningham Testimony

Cunningham no longer guides 300-pound offensive linemen and ego-driven wide receivers to victories on the field. Today, he counsels and encourages troubled teenagers, middle-class families worried about paying the mortgage and anyone else willing to enter the church.

"If I'd never played football, I don't think I'd be the leader I am today. If I hadn't gone through the hardships I've gone through and been rebuked and hated by the Giant fans and the Cowboy fans and the Raider fans,'' he said, laughing, ''I would not have been nourished in the area of maturity."

"We need somebody to hold us accountable on a daily basis," Cunningham preaches. "Everybody needs to be held accountable, including me."

Times – they are a –changing

By Brian Colon

Perhaps the most progressive industry in the world is sports. The wide world of sports has turned into the true cash cow and competing to win just went up a notch. The days of play for the love of the game, has changed into play the game for the money, fame and hope you dont get hurt along the way.

Sports on all levels is a business, before anything else. This is not a hidden reality, we ( Average Fan) just refuse to look at sports from a business prospective ; we want to make sports all about the emotional attachment.

Sports is no longer fun and games. It’s all about winning, brand and the money, but is that any different from any other business sector in america. So what’s the problem?

The athletes are just starting to wake up from there slumber, there is a lot of money on the table and the art of negotiation is now part of the process, except on the college level, which I believe in my Mike Tyson voice.... “Ludacris” there is enough money to go around the table, no need for greed. The first step in a positive direction would be for everybody to admit ….Times – they are a –changing.

All Things Political

By Brian Colon

I thought sports was the one thing that was no longer political, so I thought wrong.  When you hear about politics the first thing that come to mind, who is running for office or who will be the next president. That is only a small part of what is involved in the political landscape.

Politics and trained politicians run the show in all aspects of our life’s , to think politics is only for the people in Washington DC  is like saying there is only one type of cereal at your local grocery store. Politics is involved in all activities of our day to day lives, including sports.

Who will get the starting position on the team or in corporate america, who gets the new opening on the coaching staff, who gets the food vendor contract at the stadium, and the grandaddy of all political moves, who will get to put their brand name on the new stadium, is all political.

The worst thing a person can do, pretend politics has very little to do with their every day life, don’t hate participate, learn the political game. If you don’t know the rules, you can’t win the game;  and yes at the end of the day, it’s all one big political game and the stakes are high. You might not be running for office, but to not understand the process leaves you on the bench watching the game.

Spending a Dime Earning a Nickel

By Brian Colon

Saving money is a lost art, we keep reading about the athletes that went broke after earning millions of dollars. The idea of going from millions to zero, makes the average working guy lose sleep at night. That is only half the story, athletes are not the only ones that blow their money, most americans have a spending addiction just not on that scale.

Where did this mindset come from, spend more than you make. There was a poll that ask a group of people that make over $ 200 thousand a year, what is there biggest fear? 90% of those surveyed said, they fear they do not make enough money to provide for their family and meet their daily needs.

I guess living below your bank account reality, is out of the question. I must ask, do we really need to buy more material possessions, are we spending a dime while earning a nickel all in the name of material wealth.

It’s easy to focus on the next athlete that has devoted their time and energy in covetousness, and made some bad investments along the way and went broke. Most of us are just going from broke to broke, without experiencing the millionaire part. Don’t point the finger at the athletes, half of us are spending a dime, when we only make a nickel.

The Average Zone

By Brian Colon

There is only two ways to separate yourself from the rat pack, become really good at what you are doing or become really bad. The choice is yours, you can get with this or you can get with that.

We are living in a breaking news society, do something really good and benefit from your accomplishments and get notice or become the next person on the news for doing something really bad and suffer the consequences.

There is a third group that no one pays attention to, average every day people that stay below the radar, living in the average zone. This group plays it safe, which can be smart at times, but being average can make you invisible and your work might go unnoticed.

Infallible Hero..... Only In Hollywood

By Brian Colon

We have the habit of putting humans on that super hero pedestal, which is ok if you keep everything in prospective. The spotlight makes athletes and people in the public eye, failures and accomplishments look bigger than they really are which make them heroes or villains.

Failure is part of the process, dust yourself off, and try even harder the next time, that is what makes us all real life super heroes. But not all failures are the same. If you are doing the same thing over and over and  get the same results and never make the proper adjustment you are not a hero, you are insane.

We get to see the imperfections of the people that we look up to eventually our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, coaches, ministers, and go ahead and add your favorite athlete or entertainer to that list.  No human has the ability to avoid failure and become the next infallible super hero.
